St. John is the smallest and most blissful of the three United States Virgin Islands. It is best known for its crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches, colorful corals and tropical fishes. Nine miles long, and three miles wide, 2/3 of the Island is preserved by the Virgin Islands National Park. Despite its pristine uncommercialized atmosphere, St. John offers everything you might be looking for in a vacation Island.
St. John has a wide variety of island activities ranging from horseback riding, hiking, to exploring historical ruins. On water, one can charter a kayak, catamaran, or dinghy with or without a captain for sightseeing, picnicking, scuba diving, snorkeling, or Island hopping between the US Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands (passport needed).
There is significant variety in accommodations offered at every budget level, including hotels, condominiums, and private homes (typically referred to as villas). Private homes are managed by property managers who know virtually all of the homes on the Island.
Getting around on St. John, USVI is quite easy. One can rent a jeep or hire a taxi. Taxi fares are reasonable and they are a great way to get around, however if you would like leaving when you feel like or drive miles and explore, then renting a jeep is the way to go. Jeeps are the best way to explore the Island because of its terrain a car might not make it up the hills.
